Wow... what a day we had this past weekend capturing Vuso and MJ's wedding! I've never been so tired after shooting a wedding - so much fun!! We experienced a fusion of Zimbabwean and Filippino wedding traditions at this wedding. On top of being with a warm crowd and familiar faces, we encountered probably the most (contagiously) energetic and creative DJ/MC ever. Long story short, by the end of the night, he was leading a large number of guests on the dance floor to Michael Jackson "Thiller" choreography! Check out Chris Zoleta is if you want your event to be super lively... and check out this sneak peek while you're at it so you can kinda get a taste of the fun time we had!
As always, don't be shy to drop us a line!
Our mornings started off at the respective residences of Daniel and Carla’s parents. Andrea was greeted with a bustling house on Daniel’s side while I entered a more calm and spacious environment (which I admit is fairly uncommon for bride preps). I found myself in the beautiful multi-level town house in the Bellwoods area of Toronto. All the girls were getting ready in the upper loft, which featured a balcony that offered a view of the surrounding cityscape.
After everyone was dressed, Daniel got a first look of his bride where he expressed both words of praise to her and tongue-in-cheek remarks in their playful banter. After the moment and family pictures, we ventured off to the Toronto Music Gardens for wedding party pictures, followed by St. Francis of Assisi Church for the catholic wedding ceremony.
If you've been following our Instagram feed, you'll know that this wedding was very special for Team Aperture Lane. Not only are Nick and Taryn both our friends, but Nick used to do some videography for Aperture Lane in the early days. Needless to say, he was on the other side of the lens for this one and they both did great!
We started the day at their respective parents' houses and concluded from the ceremony onward at The Doctor's House in Kleinburg. Here's a quick look at their day to hold us all over until their feature is ready later this year. Enjoy!
During thanksgiving weekend, I ventured out with Shannon (from Shannon Robbins Photography) to the Kelso Conversation Area out in Milton, ON. As Daniel and Gizelle’s photo/video team for their wedding next July, we were honoured to spend some time with them and get to know them a little better. As opposed to your regular engagement photo shoot when it’s mostly just photography, Shannon and I both directed the couple to get capture both stills and video clips just as we would on the wedding day.
After exploring the conservation area, I will say that I really like it. It provides quite a diversity in environments. We went from a lake beach area with willows to a cliff showcasing the surrounding natural areas to a wooden area with trees shielding us from the sun and wind. We definitely got bang for our buck here. Speaking of bang for your buck, bring some money as the conservation area is not free admission - but is totally worth it!
My goal was to collect footage for a future project but I loved the footage so much, I thought I’d throw together and little some’m-some’n to get us all excited for Daniel & Gizelle’s big day next year! As always, I’d love to hear what you think. Enjoy!
Fervin and Jasmine are one of the most fun-loving and easy-going couples I've had the privilege of working with. Their lightheartedness shone bright from their attitude towards the inclement weather before their ceremony all the way to care-free dancing by the couple accompanied by their friends and family.
As we drove to the Crosswinds Golf Club, I was a bit apprehensive about the weather. I've never shot a wedding ceremony that got completely rained out; it's always worked out that the rain stopped at the right time or the ceremony was delayed until a clearing passed over. However, this one really pushed the limits of my confidence. There was "spitting" rain the entire day following the downpour earlier in the morning. As we set up our cameras for the procession, I nervously wiped away a noticeable layer of water built up from the falling mist. I didn't want to have to pack up and compete for shelter with thousands of dollar of equipment dragging behind me.
